Save Our Bushland

The Bushland Shire is more than just a name, it is part of the Berowra electorate and part of our home, our community, and a place where nature and people have coexisted for generations. That balance is now under threat, not just from overdevelopment, but from decisions being made behind closed doors, without public scrutiny.

We, the undersigned, stand with Independent candidate for Berowra, Tina Brown, and the Honourable Philip Ruddock in demanding full transparency and public accountability in all discussions regarding tree protections and development in Hornsby Shire.

Why This Matters:

  • Hornsby’s tree canopy is at risk from policy changes that could lead to more land clearing, weaker safeguards, and unchecked development.

  • The proposed mayoral minute calls for an informal Councillor briefing, allowing discussions that affect our community to take place behind closed doors without proper public oversight.

  • Decisions about our environment, homes, and community’s future should not happen in secret meetings but through an open, transparent process with full community input.

Our Demands:

  1. No Backroom Briefings – Every discussion and consultation that leads to decision-making on tree protections must be made public.

  2. Proper Community Consultation – Policy changes affecting our bushland should be subject to full community consultation.

  3. No Closed-Door Meetings – Council should commit to transparency and ensure residents have a say in decisions impacting our natural environment.

  4. Hornsby Future Housing Plan - We are in a cost of living crisis and Australians need homes, young Australians in particular are locked out of the housing market, we need a balanced approach by council that will work collaboratively with all levels of Government to protect our natural environment and also make strategic, balanced decisions to improve housing supply and affordability in consultation with the broader community.

Tina Brown’s Commitment to Berowra:

Tina Brown is committed to working across all levels of Government: local, state, and federal, to fight for the people in the Federal Electorate of Berowra. This means ensuring transparency, accountability, and genuine community consultation on key issues like environmental protection, responsible development, and local decision-making.

Her campaign is about putting people before politics and ensuring that every decision impacting Berowra’s future is made with public input and in the best interests of the community.
